Anyone involved in the sales of goods or services, such as fuel, heavy trucks, and other goods in Part I and Part II of Form 720, must pay Excise Taxes using Form 720, Quarterly Federal Excise Tax. This form must be submitted for every quarter until you file a final return.

A person who has paid and reported a section 4081 tax to the government on taxable fuel uses Schedule 5 (Form 8849) to claim a refund of that tax if a prior section 4081 tax on that fuel has also been paid and reported to the government. Schedule 5 (Form 8849)

What is Form 8843? Form 8843 is not an income tax return. Form 8843 is merely an informational statement required by the U.S. government for certain nonresident aliens (including the spouses or dependents of nonresident aliens).

There is no monetary penalty for failure to file Form 8843. However, in order to be compliant with federal regulations one must file Form 8843 if required to do so. (Remember, being compliant can affect the issuing of future US visas or granting of legal permanent resident status.)

Businesses that are subject to excise tax generally must file a Form 720, Quarterly Federal Excise Tax Return to report the tax to the IRS. Many excise taxes go into trust funds for projects related to the taxed product or service, such as highway and airport improvements.
