Bates offers multiple programs to support students who need to complete high school or prepare for college or a career. Whether you need to complete your high school diploma, or improve your reading, writing or math skills, our programs are designed to help you succeed in the workplace or attain your educational goals.

The AESOP experience typically involves upperclass student leaders welcoming the incoming class to life at Bates through a 3 day, 2 night trip. Our trips have taken place all over Maine and New Hampshire and include everything from community engagement to rock climbing.

At least 50% of all admitted students have GPAs in the top 10% of their high school class and scored over 1230 on the SAT and over 26 on the ACT. It is extremely difficult to be admitted as a transfer student. In 2022, Bates College waitlisted 2,473 students. Of those, 1,245 eventually got in.

Short-term training includes classes or programs that last anywhere between one day and two years. It can help you qualify for a job, get a promotion, or earn more money. Short-term training programs change often, as employers look for new skills and credentials.

Is Bates College need-aware? Yes. This means that, on occasion, a student's financial need may impact their application decision. Bates has a generous but limited pool of financial aid for non-U.S. students.

The school sponsors 32 varsity sports (16 men's, 16 women's), most of which compete in the Division III New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC). The school's men's and women's ski teams and men's and women's squash teams compete in Division I.

How Hard Is It to Get Into Bates College? Admissions to Bates College are extremely competitive. Bates received 7,696 applications to its Class of 2025 and admitted just 1,085?giving the college an overall acceptance rate of 14%. Bates has an Early Decision admissions process through which it received 838 applications.
