You can set this adjustment by following these steps: Choose Spacing from the Format menu. The Equation Editor displays the Spacing dialog box. (See Figure 1.) Click on the Limit height box. The Equation Editor changes the Spacing dialog box. Enter a limit height spacing that is a percentage of normal. Click on OK.

Highlight the inserted equation->under the design tab towards the left you will see 'Normal text' option-> Click on 'Normal text'->that should get the whole equation together. Click on the inserted equation ->you will see a small drop down->select 'change to display' and that should get the whole equation together.

Add captions Select the object (table, equation, figure, or another object) that you want to add a caption to. On the References tab, in the Captions group, click Insert Caption. In the Label list, select the label that best describes the object, such as a figure or equation.

In the Layout tab, click In Front of text. Click OK. Click the equation and move it close to where you want it. To fine-tune its position, hold down the Ctrl key (Mac: option key) and use the arrows on the keyboard.

At the end of an equation, if you want to start another equation immediately, press Shift+Enter instead of Enter. Each line will appear in a separate equation box, but they'll all be part of a single display paragraph.

Configure text wrapping around a picture or drawing object Select the picture or object. Go to Picture Format or Shape Format and select Arrange > Wrap Text. If the window is wide enough, Word displays Wrap Text directly on the Picture Format tab. Choose the wrapping options that you want to apply.

The equation numbers should be enclosed by parentheses and placed at the right-hand side of the page. If you are referring to an equation in the text, use eq. (3) (or other abbreviations). If it is the first word in a sentence, capitalize it, i.e., Eq.
