1) Make sure that you are in Print Layout view - the header and footer aren't visible in any of the other views. 2) Move the mouse pointer to the top of a page. The mouse pointer should change to a double box with up- and down-pointing arrows. Double-click to show the white space at the top and bottom of the page.

Double-click within the header or footer to edit them. Click the ?Design? tab....Page Margins Check that your top margin is set to 1 inch. Check the page margin layout settings.Make sure you don't have extra space in the header.Make sure there isn't extra space between your text and the top of the page.

Margins are a section property. That means you can't change the left and right margins for the header or footer without also changing them for the body of the document. To work around this behavior, use an indent and aligned tab in the header. You can do so manually or by modifying the Header or Footer style.
