To apply for a California learner's permit, teens need to be between 15½ and 17½ years of age. If you are younger than 17½ you will have to complete an approved driver's education course that is taught by a state-licensed driver's education school and includes a minimum of 25 hours of instruction.

Anyone 18 or older can apply for a driver's license without needing to get a permit first. If you are under 18, then you will need a learner's permit for at least 6 months and must also satisfy other requirements.

If you are 14 years of age and passed a written driving test, you can get a learner's permit to drive. You cannot drive with a learner's permit unless you have an adult, 18 years or over, sitting next to you and teaching you while you drive. Once you are 16 years of age you can get a driver's license.

Canada's driving age is determined on a province-by-province basis. The age to begin learning is 16 in most provinces. The notable exception is Alberta, where a learner's permit may be obtained at 14 years of age.

You must wait 12 months after obtaining your G2 before you can apply to take your G test as it allows you ample time to practice expressway/high-speed driving and build experience in preparation for your full G licence test.

The minimum age to drive in the USA is just 16 in some states, however other states require you to be at least 18. You can obtain a learner's permit in Alaska, Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, North and South Dakota at just 14 years old.

After 12 months at Level Two, you may take a road test to qualify for full licence privileges. You must pass this test to get a Class G licence. Note: It is now law that all young drivers 21 and under, regardless of licence class, must have a blood-alcohol level of zero.
