Coated papers are papers that are coated with glossy, semi-gloss, or matte finishes.

Paper finish describes the surface or texture of a sheet of paper or cardstock. Finish affects the look and feel of the paper, but more importantly, it can impact printability and absorbency by dictating how the sheet will take ink. This is especially important for print and graphic designers and photographers.

Coated papers come in numerous options: gloss, matte, dull and satin finish. Gloss ? gloss coated paper has a high sheen. This coating has less bulk and opacity and are typically less expensive than dull & matte paper of equal thickness.

1. High Gloss. High gloss paper is the shiniest, glossiest paper you can get. High gloss paper provides vibrant, rich color reproduction, as well as the crispest resolution, but it can be difficult to view under bright lights because it can reflect that light and cause glare.

Coated papers have a coating on them (typically clay), so they're ?sealed.? This restricts the amount of ink that is absorbed into the paper, allowing the ink to sit on top of the paper, in a crisp defined dot. Uncoated papers do not have this coating and thus are more porous.

Lustre paper comes with a semi-gloss that doesn't reflect light too much. It is closer to a matte finish than the glossy paper. There is no doubt why it is a favorite of photographers. Lustre photos have vivid colors, sharp details, and rich color saturation.
