Page Breaks are indicated by dotted lines because content is not displayed in the same way as when in Print Layout View.

This is normal. In some documents, however, hitting Ctrl+Enter simply skips a line and there's no indication a page break has been inserted. If Jesse then hits Backspace, the page break line appears in the skipped line.

On the View tab, in the Workbook Views group, click Page Break Preview. on the status bar. On the Page Layout tab, in the Page Setup group, click Breaks. Click Reset All Page Breaks.

Remove a page break from a Word document On the Home tab, in the Paragraph group, click Show/Hide to show all formatting marks including page breaks. Double-click the page break to select it, then press Delete. Click Show/Hide again to hide the remaining formatting marks in the document.

This behavior can occur when you insert a Continuous section break into the same page in which you have inserted a footnote, and the section break appears after the footnote. The new page is created to prevent footnotes (or endnotes) from two different sections of the document from being displayed on the same page.

To view manual page breaks, paragraph marks and other non-printing characters in Microsoft Word: Click the Home tab in the Ribbon. Click Show/Hide ¶ in the Paragraph group Paragraph marks, tabs, spacing and manual page breaks will display but will not print.

To remove a page break you added in manually, click the Home tab. Click Show/Hide ¶ to display the page breaks in your document. Find the manual page break you want to remove and double click the page break to highlight it. Finally, hit the Delete or Backspace key to remove it.
