PURPOSE: The primary purpose for providing the requested information on this request is to show that the applying immigrant has adequate means of financial support without concern of becoming reliant on the U.S. Government for financial support.

When should I file Form I-864? Form I-864 should be completed when the person who is applying for their green card has either been scheduled for an immigrant visa interview at a consular office outside the U.S., or is inside the U.S. already and they are ready to submit Form I-485 (Adjustment of Status).

Form I-864 or Form I-864EZ is legally required for many family-based immigrants to show that the intending immigrant has adequate means of financial support and is unlikely to become a public charge.

This contract must be submitted with Form I-864.
