Form Release For Free

Formol is a chemical release agent applied to concrete formwork. It is designed to act as a bond breaker between formwork or moulds and freshly placed concrete. Formol can be used as a general purpose release agent on construction sites. It can be applied to formwork or moulds made of timber, steel or fibreglass.

Common examples include diesel oil, home heating oils, paraffin wax, new motor oil, etc. Diesel and home heating oils are common because they are readily available, inexpensive to purchase and they do release.

Concrete form release agent, or form release for short, is a product that's applied to concrete molds, frames and forms to prevent the concrete from sticking as it cures. Don't forget to apply form release oil to your concrete forms before pouring, even if you cannot find it on the market.

Any type of oil will prevent concrete from sticking to wood. Spray the surfaces that will face the wet concrete with a heavy saturation of oil. Allow the oil to penetrate the wood for 15 to 20 minutes. Apply a second heavy spraying of oil just before pouring concrete.

Generally, forms are made from lumber coated in a special type of plastic known as melamine that is slick and nonadhesive. Many natural oils around your home are multipurpose.

Castor oil, or petroleum jelly thinned with kerosene, also are good release agents. Concrete forms, even if they are ground, smoothed and polished, require a release agent to prevent sticking and enable easy stripping. Light colored petroleum oils or oil emulsions or various types have been used successfully.
