A Proof of Delivery (POD) is an e-mailed response letter containing the delivery information, the recipient's name, the tracking number, an image of the recipient's signature, and the printed name and address. Other information includes: Delivery location attribute (e.g., Front Door / Porch).

Request a read receipt On your computer, open Gmail. Click Compose. Compose your email as you normally would. Request read receipt.

On the File menu, select Options > Mail. Under Tracking, select the Delivery receipt confirming the message was delivered to the recipient's e-mail server or Read receipt confirming the recipient viewed the message check box.

Choose Options form the FILE menu. Click on Mail in the Outlook Options dialog window. Scroll down to the Tracking area. Check the 'Delivery receipt confirming the message was delivered to the recipient's e-mail server' and 'Read receipt confirming the recipient viewed the message' boxes.

Go to File > Options > Mail and scroll down to the For all messages sent, request section. Select the Read receipt confirming the recipient viewed the message check box. To get an individual read receipt, create a new message and select Options > Request a Read Receipt. Send the email as normal.

Return Receipt provides the sender with proof of delivery (the recipient's signature along with information about the delivery address, if different, and date of and time of delivery). A Return Receipt may be purchased at the time of mailing.

Also, read receipts might be blocked by Outlook. To choose how Outlook deals with read receipts, click the FILE tab and Options. Select Mail and go down to the Tracking area. Here the recipient can choose to Never send a receipt, Always send a receipt or to Ask each time whether to send a read receipt.

In the United States, DHL, UPS and FedEx as well as the US postal service (USPS) provide proof of delivery. Commercial fleet operators also need to be able to confirm proof of delivery of goods to their customers.
