Functional Resume Hide Date Field For Free

Roughly a quarter of resume liars are fibbing about their employment dates, according to OfficeTeam. If you're tempted to cover up a resume gap by fudging employment dates, don't do it.If you're worried about a resume gap making you look like a slacker, fill it with volunteering or consulting work, not lies.

Because this layout places the primary focus on your relevant skills, functional resumes allow you to better tailor the content to a specific role you're hoping to land, without having to worry too much about job titles that don't sound relevant, gaps in employment, or an eclectic work history.

A common trick is to include a keyword several times in a row, but change the text color to white so it is hidden. However, when keywords are highlighted on the hiring manager's end, the white text will stick out like a sore thumb (see screenshot below).

Anyone can copy and paste a job description, and those that do lose points immediately in an employer's eye. You need to minimise the duties/tasks and focus on your actions and results if you want your resume to stand out in a crowded job market. This tells an employer:the results and outcomes from your past roles.

Disadvantages: This format can accentuate gaps in a candidate's work history. It may not be the best format for career changers or those re-entering the workforce. The functional resume groups together common skills.

Choose a functional resume style. Write a functional resume to hide employment gaps. Only list employment years on your resume, not months. Hide employment gaps by listing volunteer work, too.

Functional resumes highlight your abilities, such as hiring, managing or coaching, rather than your chronological work history. You'll still need to summarize your work history, but this is usually done at the bottom of your resume.
