The Model Validation Notice has six elements: An itemization or reference date for the debt: The itemization date could reference any of five dates (last statement, the chargeoff, the last payment, the transaction date, or the judgement date).

(5) Validation period means the period starting on the date that a debt collector provides the validation information required by paragraph (c) of this section and ending 30 days after the consumer receives or is assumed to receive the validation information.

We hope this email finds you well. This is a friendly reminder from [Name of Your Business] that your payment of [invoice amount] for Invoice [number] is due on [deadline]. While there is no obligation to do so, our team would appreciate confirmation that everything is on track for us to receive payment on time.

Section 1006.34(b)(3) states that the itemization date is any one of five reference dates for which a debt collector can ascertain the amount of the debt. The reference dates are the last statement date, the charge-off date, the last payment date, the transaction date, and the judgment date.

You can still send a dispute after 30 days. But at that point, the debt is considered valid, and a debt collector is still legally allowed to continue contacting you.

Informing debtors that they owe you money: If this is your goal, your letter should simply remind the client of their debt's existence and the initial due date. At most, you should gently hint that legal action could happen down the line, because perhaps the debtor doesn't intend to stonewall you.

Additional Information That Helps a Consumer Identify the Debt Being Collected. For debts related to consumer financial products or services, a validation notice must also include, among other things: the name and mailing information of the debt collector, consumer, and actual creditor.
