Legal experts agree that you should write all four digits when dating legal documents, regardless of the year. However, writing out the entire year as 2020 is especially important now. A deed is a written document which is executed with the necessary formality (that is, more than a simple signature), and by which an interest, right or property passes or is confirmed, or an obligation binding on some person is created or confirmed.

Failing properly to execute a deed will still be fatal to a transaction (and prevent enforcement of a defaulting party's obligations) if the particular type of transaction requires the use of a deed by law (e.g. land transfers), with no contractual recourse to fall back on.

The best way to use dates in contracts is to write out the month, preceded by a figure for the day. Use four digits when referring to specific years. Never write a date ing to either of the following structures: ..the 15th day of March 1928 (written out)

When writing the date in a formal letter , you should write it in full with no abbreviations, for example, "December 12, 2019." Avoid abbreviating the month or using the numerical format "12-12-2019."
