A watermark is an image or text that appears behind the main text of the document. It is usually a lighter shade than the text, so you can read the document easily. Text Watermarks are often used to categorize or to show the purpose of a document with words such as DRAFT.

A watermark is a logo, text, or pattern that is intentionally superimposed onto another image.Pictured at right is an example of a watermark applied to a digital image. The watermark obscures the Computer Hope logo in such a way that it would be difficult to remove or erase.

Open your logo, make it white on a transparent background, and save as a PNG. Open the image you want to put a watermark on. Click Add an image, and fetch your logo from where you've stored it. Resize your logo and place it in a corner of your image. Use the Fade slider to adjust your logo's transparency.

On the Design tab, select Watermark. In the Insert Watermark dialog, select Text and either type your own watermark text or select one, like DRAFT, from the list. Then, customize the watermark by setting the font, layout, size, colors, and orientation. Select OK.

Go to the document in which you want the watermark to appear and click on Format , Background and Printed Watermark . As you can see from the screenshot above, you can use a picture or text as a watermark. To customize the watermark message, type the text of the watermark to be printed next to the Text box.

A watermark is a message (usually a logo, stamp, or signature) superimposed onto an image, with a great deal of transparency. So, it's still possible to visualize its presence without interrupting or preventing vision of the image that it protects.
