Select the content you want to comment on. Go to Review > New Comment. Type your comment. If you want to make changes to any of your comments, just go back and edit them. To reply to a comment, go to the comment, and select Reply.

Insert a comment Select the text you want to comment on, or click at the end of the text. On the Review tab, click New Comment. Type your comment. Word shows your comment in a balloon in the document's margin.

In the Tracking group you see the Reviewing Pane tool. Click the down-arrow at the right of the tool. You should see two options displayed. Choose either Reviewing Pane Vertical or Reviewing Pane Horizontal, according to your desires.

Go to find Comment Text and move cursor over it. When you see the upside-down triangle button on the style name, click it. And choose Modify. Now in Modify Style box, change the style formatting and click OK to save the change.

If you don't see the toolbar on your screen in Word, go to the View menu to Toolbars and select the Reviewing toolbar.
