Radio buttons allow the user to select one option from a set. You should use radio buttons for optional sets that are mutually exclusive if you think that the user needs to see all available options side-by-side. If it's not necessary to show all options side-by-side, use a spinner instead.

It is the natur of radio buttons, that only one of a group is selected. If you want to allow multiple selections, use check boxes.

Setting the border to 0 seems to allow the user to change the size of the button and have the browser render it in that size for eg. the above height: 2em will render the button at twice the line height. This also works for checkboxes ( input[type=checkbox] ). Some browsers render better than others.
