Underwriters Laboratories (UL) are most widely known for standards in electrical products. E.g., every light bulb, lamp, or outlet purchased in the U.S. usually has a UL symbol and says UL Listed. In point of fact, they issue a much wider range of standards - all related to product safety for consumers.

Basically, UL Listed is the certification for whole products that are meant to be used on their own. On the other hand, UL Recognized certification is for component parts meant to be incorporated into a larger whole.

You already know that UL Listed means the product meets the strict testing requirements set forth by UL. UL Certified is a broader term that includes UL Listed, UL Recognized, as well as UL Classified (which simply means that the product has been tested for one specific standard, such as sustainability).

UL certification is essentially an umbrella term in which UL listed and UL recognized fall. In contrast, UL listing can refer only to stand-alone products that have a specific function and were tested against UL's nationally recognized safety standards of a specific category of equipment.
