Capital markets regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) on August 9 halved the timeline for listing of shares on stock exchanges after the closure of Initial Public Offerings (IPOs) to three days from six days at present.

First Day of Listing means the first day on which the relevant ISIN is expected to be admitted to trading on a Regulated Market.

The IPO listing takes place at a.m. on the listing day with a listing ceremony. The exchanges conduct a special one-hour trading session, called the pre-open session between 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. for newly listed IPO shares.

The listing date is the specific date on which a company's shares are available for trading & investing on a stock exchange, in the secondary market. You could say that the listing date marks the beginning of the company's journey as a publicly traded entity.

The IPO listing date is the date on which the IPO shares are admitted on the exchange for public to trade them. The IPO Listing Date is six business days after the IPO Closing Date.

The listing date of an IPO and other details like scrip symbol, scrip code, ISIN number and category etc., are announced through a circular issued by NSE or BSE. For mainline IPOs, the circulars are issued by both exchanges NSE & BSE. For SME IPOs, the circular is issued the exchange in which it is listed.

To list its securities in stock exchange, company has to offer its securities to the public for subscription. A company must have minimum equity capital of Rs. 5 crores and 60% of this amount are offered to the public for Shares Listing on the stock exchange.
