Full-Time/Part-Time Status: Indiana University students are considered full time when they are enrolled in 12 or more credit hours of course work; students enrolled in fewer than 12 credit hours are considered part-time students. A typical full-time load is approximately 15 credit hours.

Enrollment status is determined on the basis of the number of credits for which a student is enrolled after the tenth day of classes each semester. Students registered for 12 or more credits are considered full time.

Meaning, the second grade would simply replace the first grade. So at that school, failing the same class a second time would leave you with the exact same GPA as if you had only taken and failed it once. (It was also that school's policy that the transcript would still show that the course had been repeated.)

Credit Load - Students are permitted to enroll for a maximum of 4 credits for the winter term.

Full-time students generally take 120 credits in an academic year. Therefore, if you are taking no more than 90 credits, you will be considered as a part-time student.

While colleges can allow up to 3, and even 4 fails of a class, it is best to not let it get to this if you can, and to do whatever you can to improve your grades.

The terminology is slightly different today, but in general, you must withdraw if you fail exceed 8 failures or excluded courses, or 10 unusable course attempts. Most programs require a minimum average of 60% to advance, but some majors require grades of 65% or even 70% in some courses to advance.
