In this method, a settlement/load- settlement graph is drawn by dividing each load value by the settlement value corresponding to this load value. The points on the graph show a linear trend after a certain value (Chin, 1970). The inverse of the slope of this line (1/C1) gives the ultimate bearing capacity of pile.

In this method, the ultimate bearing capacity of piles can be determined by drawing first tangent lines to the starting and ending portions of the load-settlement curves; the intersection point of these two tangents was assumed to represent the ultimate bearing capacity of pile.

Load settlement is the process of allocating energy consumption at the site level on an hourly basis. The site level allocations are assigned to retailers based on customer enrollment. Load settlement activities are completed in ance with the Settlement System Code (AUC Rule 021).

The allowable bearing capacity of soil is the amount of load the soil can take without experiencing shear failure or exceeding the allowable amount of settlement. This is the figure that is used in the design of foundations.

The ultimate bearing capacity of soil is the maximum vertical pressure that can be applied to the ground surface, at which point a shear failure mechanism develops in the supporting soil.

The load increment is continued till failure or until a settlement of 25 mm is achieved under normal conditions; however, in special cases the test may be continued till a settlement of 50 mm is reached.
