As outlined in Section 10-193 of the C.G.S., the purpose of the Certificate of Age Form ED-301 is to ensure that individuals under the age of eighteen have proper documentation of their age and are employed in occupations that are acceptable under the law.

?In simple terms, this means that once a person reaches age 18, he/she is an adult and has all the rights of an adult, unless the legislature makes a law creating an exception for certain privileges. Some areas of exception are, driving a car, drinking, voting, marriage, and leaving high school.

The age of majority in the state of Connecticut is 18 years old. Upon reaching the age of majority, or becoming emancipated from one's parents, an individual is an adult in the eyes of the law. Legally speaking, an adult is an individual subject to all privileges and responsibilities that come with adulthood.

Certificate of Age (for 16- and 17-year-old minors) No promise of a job is needed to obtain this certificate. The minor will be issued a Certificate of Age to use until age 18. There are no restrictions on hours except when the minor is required to be in school.
