Usually, footnotes appear at the bottom of the page, while endnotes come at the end of the document or section. If you're in Reading View, switch to Editing View by clicking Edit Document > Edit in Word for the web.

Click anywhere inside any footnote in the document. Press Ctrl+A to select all footnotes, but only footnotes (Figure B). Press F9 to update any fields in all the selected footnotes and click Yes to see the updated fields, as shown in Figure C.

On the Insert menu, click Footnote. Under Location, click Footnotes or Endnotes, and then on the Footnotes or Endnotes pop-up menu, click the location that you want.

On the References tab, select Insert Footnote or Insert Endnote. Enter what you want in the footnote or endnote. Return to your place in the document by double-clicking the number or symbol at the beginning of the note.

Footnotes appear on the bottom of the page that contains the sentence to which it refers. Endnotes are listed at the end of the paper on separate pages. On the top of the first page, the title ?Notes? is centered one inch from the top of the page.

To search for a footnote, follow these steps: Press Ctrl+F to display the Find tab of the Find and Replace dialog box. (See Figure 1.) In the Find What box, enter the text for which you want to search. To search for a footnote mark, enter ^f. ... Set other searching parameters, as desired. Click on Find Next.

Method 2: Show the Note Pane To begin with, click ?View? tab. Then choose ?Draft? view. Next click ?References? tab. And then click ?Show Notes? option in ?Footnotes? group. Now there shall be a note pane at the bottom of the screen whose size you can adjust. Make sure you select ?All Footnotes?.
