Current regulations are such that you do not need a permit to come into the park to take pictures, even if doing so with a professional photographer.

A permit is required when shooting at any of monuments on the National Mall, as well as most other parks and public locations in DC. In this post, I'll be explaining why permits are important, who needs one, how to obtain it, and additionally how to handle it during your session.

Yosemite is one of the most naturally stunning destinations in the world, beaming with scenic attractions like El Capitan, Yosemite Falls, and Half Dome. Many photographers flock to the park to find the ideal vantage point to view these famous attractions and capture the perfect shot.

It's difficult but manageable. The best time to photograph Yosemite from Sentinel Dome is at sunset or a golden hour just before. The golden glow paints Yosemite Valley in dreamy light. Most hikers choose to combine Sentinel Dome into a loop with Taft Point for a 2.2-mile round trip hike.

Federal law requires a permit for all commercial filming, no matter the size of the crew or the type of equipment. This includes individuals or small groups that don't use much equipment, but generate revenue by posting footage on websites, such as YouTube and TikTok.

Photography does not require a permit if it involves only hand-carried equipment (tripod, interchangeable lenses or flash), and does not involve professional crews, product or service advertisement, or use of models, props or sets.

Ask nicely, clearly and well in advance. Do it over the phone or arrange to meet in person if you can, DON'T do it over email/facebook/text. Ask to speak to the manager or owner and list exactly what you'll need and for how long. Make sure they know that you'll be discreet, quick and leave the place as you found it.
