To disable the permanent locking system, log into the online portal of UIDAI. Enter the Aadhaar number and the security code. Enter the security code and click on ?Disable? button. The Aadhaar Biometrics data is permanently disabled till such time you lock it again.

Resident can lock his or her Aadhaar (UID) via UIDAI website (.myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in) or through mAadhaar app. If resident wants to unlock UID he/she can do so by using latest VID, through UIDAI website or mAadhaar app. After unlocking Aadhaar (UID), resident can perform authentication using UID, UID & VID.

Locked Biometrics confirms that Aadhaar holder will not be able to use Biometrics (fingerprints/iris/Face) for authentication, it is a safety feature to stop any kind of biometric authentication. It also ensures that any entity by any means cannot perform biometric based Aadhaar authentication for that Aadhaar holder.

To check whether your biometrics are unlocked/locked, follow the steps below: Go to the UIDAI website and click on ?My Aadhaar?. Enter your 4-digit pin. In case the biometrics in your Aadhaar is locked, you will see a red biometrics lock symbol.

Step 2: Click on My Aadhaar. Step 3: Select secure your Biometrics by selecting Aadhaar Services. Step 4: After this, by clicking on Lock / Unlock Biometrics, enter your Aadhaar details and complete the further process. In this way you can easily lock or unlock your Aadhaar.

Biometric devices means the devices that are used for capturing the biometric data inputs i.e Fingerprint / Iris /both the information from Aadhaar number holders. These biometric devices fall under two categories viz. Discrete Devices, Integrated Devices.

When biometrics are locked, aadhaar holders are not able to use biometrics (fingerprints/ iris/ face) for authentication. Even someone else, by any means, is unable to perform biometric based aadhaar authentication for that aadhaar holder once the details are locked.
