When the front wheels are locked so that they can't turn, the car simply slides to a stop. This is because the static friction of the rolling rear wheels is greater than the kinetic friction of the sliding front wheels. When your brakes lock up, your vehicle may veer sharply to the left or right. The back end could fishtail, causing you to lose control. If this happens as you drive, pump the brakes consistently until you come to a complete stop.
