What kind of equipment do I need in order to take the LSAT at a test center? All equipment and materials, including scratch paper and pencils, will be provided by Prometric to all test takers who choose to test at a testing center.

Test-takers may be allowed to take the LSAT with pencil and paper (the LSAT is now administered digitally)

. Starting with the August 2023 test, the multiple-choice portion of the LSAT will be proctored via Prometric, whether you opt to take the test at a test center or in an online, remotely proctored format. LSAT Writing ® will continue to be administered by ProctorU.

Unlike those pre-2019 in-person exams, 2023-24 test-takers who opt to take the test in person will not be given a paper-and-pencil version of the LSAT (unless LSAC approved that version of the exam as part of that test-taker's testing accommodations).

Generally, your desktop must be clear of anything not test-related. The list of items permitted during the LSAT without prior approval from LSAC can be found in the LSAC Candidate Agreement.

One administration of LSAT Writing is included in your LSAT registration. By registering for the LSAT, you will be automatically eligible to complete the writing section as of eight (8) days before you take the multiple-choice portion of the LSAT. You can access LSAT Writing from your LSAC online account.

Scratch paper is allowed on the LSAT-Flex Test-takers are limited to 5 sheets of scratch paper. It is recommended to use the standard 8.5x11 inches in order to avoid any restrictions (this is typically the regular notebook and printer paper). Lined, unlined, or graphing paper are all accepted for the test.

A New Option for the 2023-2024 Testing Year Starting with the August 2023 LSAT, most test takers will have the choice of whether to take the test at home, proctored by a live, remote proctor, or in person at a Prometric digital testing center. We are adding this option in response to test taker feedback.

The first is that far more people are scoring in the 160-180 ranges than in the lower, 120-140 range. About 25% of test takers score at/above 160, while only about 11% are in the 120-140 range.

Do I have to take LSAT Writing if I have already completed a writing sample during a previous LSAT administration? No. Candidates are only required to have one writing sample on file for their LSAT to be considered complete.
