If your first-choice school only accepts the LSAT, then you need to take the LSAT. While other schools on your list might accept the GRE, you should always prepare your application based on the needs of your first-choice school. There isn't a single law school that will refuse the LSAT.

Candidates are not permitted to bring any electronic device into the Test center; except that the Candidate is permitted to bring their cellular phone to the Test center; provided, that, the Candidate must store such cellular phone in an assigned locker prior to the commencement of the Test.

Instead of testing content, the LSAT is an analytical exam that tests critical thinking skills across three subjects: logical reasoning, analytical reasoning, and reading comprehension. What makes the LSAT so challenging is that it approaches these subjects in a manner that is best described as counterintuitive.

You may not access any electronic devices, such as a mobile phone, during the intermission unless you have an LSAC-approved testing accommodation that permits use of the specific device. Unauthorized access of an electronic device, such as a mobile phone or tablet, will cause your testing session to be terminated.

Harvard Law School accepts either the Law School Admission Test (LSAT) or the Graduate Record Exam (GRE). We do not have a preference for either exam.

The LSAT will include a 10-minute intermission between the second and third sections. During the intermission, you can leave your testing area to have a snack or use the restroom. Possession of electronic devices, such as cell phones, is prohibited during the intermission and will result in termination of your test.

Beginning with the August 2023 LSAT, most test takers will have the option of whether to take the test at home in an online, live, remotely proctored format or in-person at a digital testing center. Our goal in offering two different test modes is to give each test taker a choice of which option works best for them.

Law schools do not average the scores for admission, but we always look at performance if you've taken the test more than once. Ideally, it would be best if every applicant could secure their ideal LSAT score on the first attempt, but that is often not the case. Law schools will report the highest LSAT score.

160 score: A score of 160 or above is typically considered a good LSAT score. Although it may not be high enough to get into the highest tier of law school, there are many very reputable law schools with median LSAT scores in this area.
