Beginning with the August 2023 LSAT, most test takers will have the option of whether to take the test at home in an online, live, remotely proctored format or in-person at a digital testing center.

The length of the exam is similar to the SAT and ACT; however, because of the amount of reasoning that goes into answering each question, students typically find the LSAT to be much more stressful than any tests they've taken previously.

Beginning in the fall of 2025, law school applicants may be able to skip the formidable task of studying for and taking the LSAT. That is when the American Bar Association will no longer obligate applicants to their accredited law schools to take this or any other standardized admissions test.

Because there are many benefits of scoring in this range, all applicants should at least strive for a 170 or higher on the LSAT. A score in this range will all but ensure an applicant has a variety of options at the end of the application cycle.

In those cases it is often a good idea to attempt a retake, since in general law schools only consider the highest score. It is the only score factored into USNWR rankings, after all. However, this principle begins to progressively deteriorate after 3 LSAT takes, barring a substantial explanation.

Top-five law schools: 170 to 180. Schools like Harvard and Yale, which are the top two, rarely accept applicants with less than 172 on the LSAT.

Law schools will report the highest LSAT score. Unless there are glaring disparities between LSAT scores, most law schools will not balk at multiple LSAT scores, especially when the score increases.Once applicants have taken the LSAT two or three times they often see scores start to cluster and plateau.
