Google Earth or Earth Studio can be used for purposes such as research, education, film and nonprofit use without needing permission. All content created from Google Earth or Earth Studio must always be properly attributed. Google Earth content may not be used for any commercial or promotional purposes.

Using Google Earth images for commercial use without a license is copyright infringement.

Although the Google Maps pin is protected under a U.S. design patent, other organizations have used it as a component of their own logos. The Labour Party of Malta used an image closely resembling the Google Maps pin as their logo in the 2014 European Parliament election campaign.

Most of the satellite images supplied by U.S. Federal civil agencies are public domain (such as Landsat or ASTER). Aerial images from the HDDS "Baseline" area and post-event aerial images provided by Federal/State agency partners are often public domain as well.

Attribution. All uses of the content must provide attribution to both Google and our data providers. We require clear, visible attribution when the content is shown. You may not move the attribution to the end credits or fade it out after a few seconds.

Under copyright law, maps should be treated like any other artwork or intellectual property (IP). This means that generally, nobody should publish a map that isn't owned by them without specific permission from the author or owner. It's the copyright owner who has the right to decide where a map is published.
