Modify Footnote Permit For Free

In a Word document, when editing with track changes, footnotes do not automatically refresh after deletion. If track changes are accepted, footnotes will be updated automatically. But when track changes is still on (in the document), footnotes won't upate automatically.

If you are doing your edits without Track Changes being turned on, then it is possible that your footnotes don't use automatic numbering. Meaning, whoever created the footnotes actually inserted the numbers within the Custom Mark field of the Footnote and Endnote dialog box.

Make sure the correct reference is highlighted in the Edit & Manage Citations window. Open the drop down menu for Edit Reference. Select Remove citation. This removes the text of the footnote, the reference in the bibliography if you have one, and the associated EndNote formatting.
