Search for Subscriptions. Select the subscription that was created when you signed up for Azure free account. In the subscription overview, select Upgrade subscription in the command bar. If you don't see the upgrade subscription option, select the upgrade banner at the top of the page.

EMS E3, Microsoft 365 E3, and Microsoft 365 Business Premium includes Azure AD Premium P1. EMS E5 or Microsoft 365 E5 includes Azure AD Premium P2. You can use the same Conditional Access features noted in the following sections to provide multi-factor authentication to users.

For Azure PaaS-based cloud services, software licenses are built into the service pricing. For Azure IaaS-based virtual machines, additional licenses to use the software or application installed on a virtual machine image might be required.

Azure AD includes group-based licensing, which allows you to assign one or more product licenses to a group. Azure AD ensures that the licenses are assigned to all members of the group. Any new members who join the group are assigned the appropriate licenses. When they leave the group, those licenses are removed.

Change user license assignments Sign in to the Azure portal using a License administrator account in your Azure AD organization. Select Azure Active Directory > Users, and then open the Profile page for a user. Select Licenses. Select Assignments to edit license assignment for the user or group.

Microsoft 365 uses Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) to manage user identities behind the scenes. Your Microsoft 365 subscription includes a free Azure AD subscription so that you can integrate your on-premises Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) to synchronize user accounts and passwords or set up single sign-on.

If you just want just basic Azure AD join for your computers, a regular Azure AD or Office 365 subscription is all you need. You can use an existing subscription or set up a new one. That said, if you want to do anything beyond just joining, you will need additional licenses for Endpoint Management/Intune.
