A Nevada moving permit, also known as a trip permit or temporary registration permit, is a document issued by the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) that allows a vehicle to be legally driven in the state for a short period of time, typically 15 or 30 days.

Sign on to MyDMV. If your vehicle is listed in your account, you can obtain a movement permit online to drive the vehicle for testing or a smog check. If you have not otherwise operated the vehicle on public streets, you can complete an Affidavit of Non-Operation during the online renewal to avoid late fees.

Online The vehicle must have a Nevada registration that is active or expired less than 18 months. Permits are issued only to the registered owner. You must have a MyDMV account and the vehicle listed in it. You may receive only a maximum of 90 days of permits regardless of permit type or how they were issued.

Obtaining the Permit The online permits are issued to the registered vehicle owner and are only valid for movement around Nevada. For vehicles that are not registered in Nevada, the permit fee is $8.25 per day for each permit.

A mobile home may not be moved from one location to another or transferred unless the owner obtains the signed permit from the Treasurer.

The REG 172 can be issued by verifying the vehicle has a planned nonoperation (PNO) status on record, is exempt from the PNO law or has current registration fees paid on deposit.

You must have a permit to drive the vehicle more than three days after purchase. You can obtain a movement permit at any DMV office without an appointment. Bring proof of ownership or, if possible, everything you need to register the vehicle.
