Add a Document Title to Microsoft Word Go to File > Info > Properties > Title. Click ?Add a title? and paste your Heading 1 into the textbox. Or, type in an easy-to-read title for your document (e.g., ?ENGR 101 Fall 2021 Syllabus?).

On the status bar, click the Page Layout View button. Select the header or footer text you want to change. On the Home tab in the Font group, set the formatting options that you want to apply to the header / footer. When you're done, click the Normal view button on the status bar.

Select File > Info and you'll see the document properties on the right side. At the bottom, click "Show All Properties" to see more, if necessary. Select Insert > Header & Footer. On the right side of the white area at the top of the document area, select Options > Different Even & Odd Pages. Type the text you want to appear on even pages.

Click or tap where you want to start a new page without the header or footer. Go to Layout > Breaks > Next Page to create a section break. Double-click the header or footer area to open the Header & Footer tab. Select Link to Previous to turn off the link between the sections.
