Radio broadcast was started in India in 1928. U had to buy a BRL(Broadcast Receiver's License) to listen to your radio- Rs. 10 per annum. Later revised to Rs 15 in '70s.

Amateur Station Operator's Certificate or ASOC is the examination that needs to be passed to receive an amateur radio license in India. The exam is conducted by the Wireless Planning and Coordination Wing (WPC) of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.

If you want to use a walkie-talkie for a private connection, you must apply for a permit. A license is also required if your two-way radio has a stronger transmission power than 0,5 Watt. All organizations or companies can apply for a permit, after which the permit is valid for a maximum of 5 years.

Ans. The Permission Holder shall be liable to pay an Annual Fee to the Government of India every year charged @ 4% of Gross Revenue of its FM radio channel for the financial year or @ 2.5% of NOTEF for the concerned city, whichever is higher.

Packet Radio is a particular digital mode of amateur radio communications which corresponds to computer telecommunications. The telephone modem is replaced by a terminal node controller (TNC); the telephone is replaced by an amateur radio transceiver, and the phone system is replaced by the radio waves.

It must be noted that it is legal to use both licensed and unlicensed walkie-talkies in India. No Government permission is required for using them.

2.9. At present, FM Radio broadcasting in 88-108 MHz frequency band is permitted to All India Radio (AIR); private sector FM Radio broadcasters; and Community Radio Station (CRS) operators. AIR is the public service broadcaster under Prasar Bharti.

No educational qualification is specified to become a ham. Anybody who has attained 12 years of age can become a ham radio operator after passing the Amateur Station Operator's Certificate (ASOC) Examination conducted by the Ministry of Communications, Govt. of India.
