I love it here. There is no other college in the country like Bates. I've only been there a short amount of time, but I am extremely happy that I chose to attend Bates. The education and professors are amazing, the food is amazing, but what shines above all is the sense of community that shines through.

Campus Life Summary Bates College is in an urban setting and has 1,790 undergraduate students. Campus housing costs an average of $17,224 a year. Bates College competes in Club, Intercollegiate, Intramural and NCAA Division III sports.

In-Room Furniture & Services Each room is furnished with a bed, desk, desk chair, bureau, closet or armoire, wastebasket, and recycling bin. All beds are extra long twins, measuring 34 x 80 x 5 inches. All furniture must stay in its assigned student room.

Bates is a residential college; we encourage and most students do live in on-campus housing for all four years. Bates does permit a number of senior students to live off-campus each year. Who is eligible to live off-campus? Only rising seniors may apply for and participate in the off-campus lottery.

Nonmembers of the Bates community are not permitted at private parties or social events unless as invited guests of a member of the community. Consumption of alcoholic beverages on campus but outside of dormitories is expressly forbidden except by permission of Student Affairs.

Guest Policy Guests who are not residents may stay in a student's room for a maximum of three nights. Guests' presence may not infringe upon the rights of other Bates students.

Bates has a wide array of living options with both classic residence halls and smaller houses available. Rooms on-campus range from singles to 8-person suites. Not all students can be placed in their first-choice residence due to space limitations.
