Although 18 years is the legal contract age in most states, there are several exceptions?such as the case of emancipation. If the minor hasn't reached the legal contract age but is granted legal status by a court of law, he/she may enter into contracts.

An age limit is the oldest or youngest age at which you are allowed under particular regulations to do something. In some cases there is a minimum age limit.

(Minor) ?A minor may draw, indorse, deliver and negotiate such instruments so as to bind all parties except himself. Nothing herein contained shall be deemed to empower a corporation to make, indorse or accept such instruments except in cases in which, under the law for the time being in force, they are so empowered.

The minor's agreement is void-ab-intio which means from the beginning and thus cannot be ratified upon attaining the majority unless the law specifically allows the same. Moreover, the consideration provided to minors shall not be a valid consideration upon the majority.

Section 11 of the Act specifically bars a minor from entering into a deal. The consequence of this explicit prohibition is that any contract entered into by a minor shall be null and void from the beginning, irrespective of whether the other party was aware of his minority or not.

Absence of Ratification An agreement with a minor is entirely void. Even upon attaining a majority, a minor cannot ratify the agreement because a void agreement cannot be ratified. The Act of ratification cannot confer validity on an act authorised by an incompetent person.

Section 64 of the Indian Contract Act states that when a person at whose option a contract is voidable re it, the other party need not perform it. This principle applies to contracts that are voidable. But a minor's contract is void.
