Prepare Chart Notice For Free

The Notice consists of a page of Hydrograms listing important items in the Notice, a chart correction section organized by ascending chart number, a product catalog corrections section, a publications correction section, a summary of broadcast navigation warnings, and a page of additional miscellaneous information.

There are currently two methods of carrying out electronic chart corrections, either via Weekly Updates, CD or downloaded weekly from a recognized electric chart supplier's data. The preferred method will be decided by the Management Office, depending on the communications equipment onboard the vessel.

The Admiralty Notices to Mariners (NMs) service provides all of the data you need to maintain Admiralty nautical products. Admiralty NMs contain all the corrections, alterations and amendments for the UKHO's worldwide series of Admiralty Charts and Publications.

To correct a chart, look up the number of the chart in the index at the front of the NTM, by the chart number there will be a list of all the corrections that relate to that chart. Each correction is given a number to identify it. You then need to look up the correction to discover the details.

A marine notice provides important safety related information, general guidance and details about upcoming changes to legislation to the shipping and maritime community.

A good way to keep track of corrections is with a Chart and Publication Correction Record Card system. Using this system, the navigator does not immediately update every chart in the portfolio when a new Notice to Mariners arrives, instead creating a card for every chart and noting the correction on this card.

Notices to Mariners contain important navigational information such as chart updates, changes in buoyage, prior warning of activities such as dredging, exclusion zones, harbour closures and byelaws etc.
