Prepare Date Title For Free

Dates are formatted YYYY MM DD (basic format) or YYYY - MM - DD (extended format). The basic format (without hyphens) is appropriate when computer readability and storage space are of primary importance, and the extended format (with hyphens) when the document is intended for general readers.

In MLA format, you should write the date in the order of Day Month Year. Instead of writing May 31 2021, for example, you would write .

Write out the entire date in the format you choose. Write out the month in full, and avoid using abbreviations or numerical formats. For example, the date may look like "31 January 2019" or "January 31, 2019." Don't write January as ?Jan? or ?01.? If you'd like, you may opt to write the date as "2019 January 31."

The international standard recommends writing the date as year, then month, then the day: YYYY-MM-DD. So if both Australians and Americans used this, they would both write the date as 2019-02-03. Writing the date this way avoids confusion by placing the year first. Much of Asia uses this form when writing the date.

The YYYY - MM - DD format is the only officially recommended method of writing a numeric date in Canada. The presence of the DD / MM / YY (most of the world) and MM / DD / YY (American) formats often results in misinterpretation.

Write out the full date with no abbreviations. If both you and your recipient of the letter are in the U.S., Belize, or Micronesia, write your date in month-date-year format. For instance, if your letter were dated 02/23/2019, you would write the date as "February 23, 2019."

In America, the date is formally written in month/day/year form. Thus, ?January 1, 2011? is widely considered to be correct. In formal usage, it is not appropriate to omit the year, or to use a purely numerical form of the date.
