Prepare Formula Release For Free

If you prepare formula ahead of time, store it in the refrigerator. You can use pre-made formula for up to 24 hours. Open containers of ready-made formula, concentrated formula, and formula prepared from concentrate can be stored safely in the refrigerator for up to 48 hours.

Make formula just before use. If this is not possible, prepared formula may be stored: at room temperature for no more than 2 hours. in the bottom half of the fridge at the back (2 to 4°C) for no more than 4 hours.

You can put cooled, boiled water in sterilised bottles and store them sealed with a ring and cap in the fridge until needed. Use these bottles within 24 hours. If you're using refrigerated boiled water, you can warm the water slightly by standing the bottle in a container of warm water.

Water that hasn't been boiled can also contain bacteria. Formula therefore needs to be made up with water hot enough to kill the bacteria, which is at least 70 degrees C. This means boiling the kettle and leaving it to cool for no longer than 30 minutes, so that it remains at a temperature of at least 70 degrees C.

To kill germs like Cronobacter in powdered infant formula, the formula must be mixed with very hot water. Boil the water and then wait about 5 minutes before mixing with powdered infant formula.

Bring the powder with you and prepare a feed as normal using cooled boiled water. The water should be no no less than 70°C. If you choose to bring formula powder when travelling you can measure the correct amount for each feed into a small, clean, plastic container with a tight-fitting lid.

Since formula is safe in the fridge for 24 hours after it's prepared, you can make that middle of the night bottle before going to sleep so it's all set to go when you need it. You can also have a formula pitcher on hand.
