Open the container of your polyurethane seal. Dip a brush into the polyurethane. Apply the polyurethane seal to the top and bottom of the stump with even brush strokes. Work the seal into the wood grain and along the edge where the bark is attached to the wood stump.

Several formulations of wood finish expressly protect logs. They add mildewicides, fungicides, ultraviolet blockers and water repellents to ensure maximum protection. High-quality, breathable wood finishes will keep additional moisture from penetrating the wood while allowing moisture inside the log to evaporate.

One method that you can use to preserve your logs is cedar oil. Cedar oil is beneficial because it doesn't just coat the surface of the wood, but penetrates deep into its grain and cell walls, where it contains powerful antimicrobial properties. It will help keep decomposition at bay.

Borate Wood Treatments Borate is an eco-friendly and economical way to protect your logs. Borate powder is mined from the earth, and can be applied by either mixing with water to apply to large areas or dusted into cracks and crevices.

As a general rule, storage of audit logs should include 90 days hot (meaning you can actively search/report on them with your tools) and 365 days cold (meaning log data you have backed up or archived for long-term storage). A solution of borate (disodium octaborate tetrahydrate, not boric acid), applied liberally to the logs after being dampened, offers good protection against wood-destroying organisms and insects. After application, a water repellent sealer should also be applied as borate will wash out in the rain.
