Resume Check Spelling For Free

A recent poll asked hiring managers how many spelling errors they could tolerate on a resume or cover letter. The answer: One or none, according to most managers.

If you are using Microsoft Word, you can check your grammar by going to the Review tab and then selecting the Spelling & Grammar button. Microsoft Word will scan your resume for errors and will point them out to you, one at a time. Sometimes, Microsoft Word will find an error that you disagree with.

If there's a small error on your resume, it may be best to do nothing. A small typo may not sway the hiring manager's opinion of you or your resume. Recruiters or hiring managers look over many resumes a day, so they might skim over each resume to get through their queue efficiently.

Bad spelling has the same impact as professional experience. One study found that resume spelling errors in an application have the same detrimental impact on an individual applicant's chances of being shortlisted as a lack of professional experience.

Open most Office programs, click the Review tab on the ribbon. Click Spelling or Spelling & Grammar. If the program finds spelling mistakes, a dialog box appears with the first misspelled word found by the spelling checker.

The three acceptable spellings are resume (with no such accents), resumA© (with two accents) and resumA© (with only a single accent on the end). Misspellings would include using the wrong accent or putting the accent over the wrong first 'e' but not the second.
