Safeguard Title Contract For Free

A safeguard is a temporary import restriction (for example a quota or a tariff increase) that a country is allowed to impose on a product if imports of that product are increasing so as to cause, or threaten to cause, serious injury to a domestic industry that produces a similar or directly competitive product.

Article 11: Prohibition and Elimination of Certain Measures (a) A Member shall not take or seek any emergency action on imports of particular products as set forth in Article XIX of GATT 1994 unless such action conforms with the provisions of that Article applied in ance with this Agreement.

A WTO member may take a ?safeguard? action (i.e., restrict imports of a product temporarily) under the WTO Agreement on Safeguards to protect a specific domestic industry from an increase in imports of any product which is causing, or which is threatening to cause, serious injury to the industry.

A developing country Member shall have the right to extend the period of application of a safeguard measure for a period of up to two years beyond the maximum period provided for in paragraph 3 of Article 7.

The Agreement on Safeguards (the Safeguards Agreement) establishes rules for the application of safeguard measures by Member governments, as provided in Article XIX of GATT 1994. Effective safeguard rules are important to the viability and integrity of the multilateral trading system.
