After accessing the "Insert" menu, find the "Symbol" tab. From this section, choose the "Font" option and select "Wingdings". The tick mark will be found at the bottom of the list. This can also be accessed from the "Start" menu under the "Character Map" section (within System Tools).

Avoid using home remedy methods of tick removal, such as rubbing fingernail polish or vaseline petrolatum, using rubbing alcohol, or applying a hot extinguished match directly to the tick. In general, these methods do not result in tick detachment.

If portions of the tick's mouth-parts remain, remove it with tweezers. After removing the tick, clean the bite area and your hands. Save your tick in a sealed plastic bag and store in the refrigerator or freezer.

DO NOT try to kill, smother, or lubricate the tick with oil, alcohol, Vaseline, or similar material while the tick is still embedded in the skin.

Touching it with a hot match is a common one. Others include covering it with petroleum jelly or nail polish (in theory to suffocate it), or freezing it off. These are all supposed to make the tick back out of the skin on its own.

Option two On the Home tab, in the Font section, click the Font drop-down list and select the Wingdings font. Create a check mark symbol by pressing and holding Alt , and then typing 0252 using the numeric keypad on the right side of the keyboard.

Save the tick for testing (alive if possible) in a small bottle or plastic bag with a green leaf or damp piece of tissue. Label it with your name, date, site of bite and how long tick was attached.
