The MRP type of a material is specified in the material master record. Schedule line categories are proposed automatically based on values set in the appropriate table. You can make some manual changes to the entries in the sales document but you cannot change everything.

Schedule line Category determines the schedule lines for the line item and it will determine whether the item is relevant for delivery or not. The System automatically determines the corresponding schedule line category for the items when processing sales documents.

While SAP SD schedule line carries information of dates and quantities, SAP SD schedule line categories are used to determine whether each line item relevant for further processing (i.e., planning process). Moreover, SAP SD schedule line categories will control several aspects: Whether an item is relevant for delivery.

The schedule line category controls whether schedule lines in delivery schedules are relevant for planning and/or delivery. The system determines this category on the basis of the planning indicator in the forecast delivery schedule, then in the just-in-time (JIT) delivery schedule.

Schedule line in a sales order contain the delivery date and the quantity to be delivered.

Items with schedule lines are only copied to the SAP system. These schedule lines contain important information like delivery dates and quantity, available inventory, etc. You can define different schedule line categories as per the sales document type and item category.

To configure schedule line categories, perform the Customizing activity Sales ? Sales Documents ? Schedule lines ? Define schedule line categories (transaction VOV6 ). To configure the main item schedule line : Select the entry CX and choose Copy . Overwrite the key and description with your schedule line category.
