They include classrooms, play spaces, areas for caregiving routines, and outdoor areas. Learning environments are well-organized and managed settings. They offer developmentally appropriate schedules, lesson plans, and indoor and outdoor opportunities for choice, play, exploration, and experimentation.

Principle 1: Secure, respectful and reciprocal relationships. Principle 2: Partnerships. Principle 3: High expectations and equity. Principle 4: Respect for diversity. Principle 5: Ongoing learning and reflective practice.

Early childhood is a crucial period for physical, cognitive, and psychosocial development. It marks the acquisition of cognitive and language skills, the consolidation of attachment relationships, and the development of a sense of self.

ELECT helps clarify these developmental markers for each age group and shows the approximate skills they should be learning at each age group. The domains are Social, Emotional, Communication, language, and literacy, Cognitive, and Physical.
