There are two main types of photo essays: narrative and thematic. A narrative photo essay focuses on a particular story that you're telling the audience while a thematic essay focuses on a particular subject. For example, a collection of people who visit a museum is a type of thematic photo essay.

Article Talk. Photojournalism is journalism that uses images to tell a news story. It usually only refers to still images, but can also refer to video used in broadcast journalism.

Outline your article. Before you begin to formally write, write up an outline of your article. This outline will break down which information goes where. It serves as a guide to help you figure out where you need additional information.

There are two ways to organize your images: either place them in your text next to the paragraph where you discuss them (Figure 1), or put them all together at the end of the essay (Figure 2). Images always need captions. Captions should do two things; label the image and tell us the image's source.

Stick to Left Justified Text Although pictures are important, you don't want them to overwhelm your article or distract your readers from what you have written. People read from left to write, so don't interrupt easy scanning of your article by placing an image on the left side of it, forcing the reader's eyes to jump.

How to write articles Select a topic to write about. Identify your target audience. Research facts that reinforce your story. Come up with an outline of your article. Write a rough draft and pare down your outline. Specify your subject matter. Read aloud until your draft is error-free.

Including images in books and articles can complement the text, visually demonstrate the author's analysis, and engage the reader.
