The Austin South location is one of the few DPS offices that allow walk-ins. However, even if you show up in person, it doesn't guarantee you'll get inside.

In early May 2023, the Texas House passed HB 71, legislation establishing a program for issuing mobile IDs. Specifically, the bill would require the Department of Public Safety (DPS) to create a program for issuing digital driver's licenses and IDs no later than February 1, 2025.

Office Hours and Locations Customers without appointments are eligible for service at all 16 department offices. Customers with appointments will receive priority, so appointments are encouraged.
