Sort Header Record For Free

Use the SKIPREC option to skip over one or more records in the beginning of a file. If you are sorting multiple input files, SKIPREC operates only on the first file. If you did not use SKIPREC, the first two header lines would appear among the data and the line of dashes would appear at the top of the file.

HEADER1, the report header provides a header or a possible title page for the entire report. It appears only once at the beginning of the report on its own page. HEADER2, the page header provides a page header or a running head for each page defined by the LINES parameter.

The SKIPREC option allows you to skip records at the beginning of the input file and sort or copy only the remaining records. For example, if you want to sort a file but skip the first 10 records, you can specify SKIPREC=10 in your SORT JCL.

The SORTOUT DD statement specifies the single non-OUTFIL output data set for a sort, copy, or merge application. OUTFIL processing does not apply to SORTOUT. The FNAMES and FILES parameters of one or more OUTFIL statements specify the ddnames of the OUTFIL data sets for a sort, copy, or merge application.

The SORT control statement must be used when a sorting file is performed. This statement describes the control fields in the input records on which the program sorts. A SORT statement can also be used to specify a copy records. If multiple positions of sorting specified, the order of priority is from left to right.

JCL - SORT OMIT Condition Use an OMIT statement if you do not want all of the input records to appear in the output data sets. The OMIT statement selects the records you do not want to include. You can specify either an INCLUDE statement or an OMIT statement in the same DFSORT run, but not both.

You cannot use both statements together. The information presented in this chapter for the INCLUDE and OMIT statements also applies to the INCLUDE and OMIT parameters of the OUTFIL statement, except that: OUTFIL is processed after sorting, copying or merging.
