Sort Zip Code Text For Free

A 5-Digit ZIP code represents a USPS delivery area. A 9-Digit ZIP code, also known as a ZIP+4 code or an extended ZIP code, includes the same information as the 5-Digit ZIP code, plus additional information about a specific delivery route within the delivery area.

To do this, select the column containing your ZIP codes, then click on the "Data" tab and select "Sort." In the "Sort" dialog box, select "Custom Sort." In the "Sort" dialog box, select "Add Level" and choose the column containing your state information. Choose to sort by state, then by ZIP code within each state.

Display numbers as postal codes Select the cell or range of cells that you want to format. To cancel a selection of cells, click any cell on the worksheet. On the Home tab, click the Dialog Box Launcher. next to Number. In the Category box, click Special. In the Type list, click Zip Code or Zip Code + 4.

The correct format for a numeric ZIP+4 code is five digits, a hyphen, and four digits. The first five digits represent the 5-digit ZIP Code; the sixth and seventh digits (the first two after the hyphen) identify an area known as a sector; the eighth and ninth digits identify a smaller area known as a segment.

ZIP Codes are numbered with the first digit representing a certain group of U.S. states, the second and third digits together representing a region in that group (or perhaps a large city) and the fourth and fifth digits representing a group of delivery addresses within that region.

Mailing addresses Note: ZIP is always all capital letters and code is lowercase. Use specific abbreviations for street suffixes (refer to the USPS comprehensive list of suffix abbreviations).

Since our caller works for the U.S. government, and ZIP codes are a government thing, I checked the US Printing Office style guide first. It recommends ?ZIP Code.? Associated Press style is similar: ?ZIP code??two words with ?ZIP? in all caps?but it uses a lowercase C, and I was surprised it would deviate.
