Split Footnote Document For Free

By default, footnotes and endnotes are numbered sequentially for the entire document, but you can restart the numbering (or the sequence of symbols) at the beginning of every page or document section (after each section break). Click any note in your document.

When you go to Insert > Footnote, a citation number will be placed in the body of your document where you have the cursor. First, the Allow Split Footnotes checkbox in the Type > Document Footnote Options dialog box (in the Layout tab) has to be enabled (it is by default). Second, a footnote of two or more lines can't completely fit under the line of body text containing the footnote reference.

Insert footnotes and endnotes Click where you want to reference to the footnote or endnote. On the References tab, select Insert Footnote or Insert Endnote. The Footnotes pane appears at the bottom of your document. You can edit the color or style of the separator by choosing options on the Home tab, or, to delete the separators, click Footnote Separator in the Footnotes list, and then select and delete the separator line.

On the References Ribbon Tab there is a Footnotes Section. Click on the dialog launcher icon in the bottom right corner of that section of the ribbon - it opens the Footnote and Endnote dialog where you can specify how many columns you want for the Footnote Layout.
